The Hodges

September 26th, 2013

Through some smooth moves and the help of his roommate, Bennon Hodges, an outgoing guy from Memphis, Tennessee, landed the cell-phone number of a blue-eyed brunette from Petal, Mississippi on January 17th, 2010.  Caroline was her name.  In contrast to his upbeat, loud personality, Caroline was the perfect counterpart with her sweet, compassionate spirit.   It was at Mississippi College where their relationship would flourish

During the spring semester in 2010, Bennon and Caroline spent several hours a day together, which eventually led to becoming “official” on May 1st.   From that point forward, they were the perfect team.  College provided many “ups” but also many “downs”.  They learned to support one another’s weaknesses and together be stronger than they could separately.  Each summer away from MC, Caroline and Bennon were apart from one another.  He worked at his home church in Memphis with the student ministry, while she worked at a camp and at a church in Petal.   Though it was extremely tough only seeing each other a handful of times each summer, the Lord used the time apart to grow, prune, and teach them.

During Caroline and Bennon’s last summer apart in 2012, each one of them was working with the student ministries at their separate churches. Little did they know, the Lord was molding them independently to do ministry as one.  On June 17th, Bennon surrender to the call to ministry, specifically with students.   After being discipled from age 13 on, Bennon always knew he would disciple younger men but expected it would be in the business world.   However, the Lord had better plans for him.   “It really hit me in the face when I realized I didn’t need to solve a complex mystery to know what the Lord had for my life.  It was right in front of me.” Often times, we fail to capture the Lord’s voice because we forget about who we are.  We are all products of his work workmanship.  The Lord grows and shapes us into who we are suppose to be using our past experiences and the people in our lives.

After 3 1/2 years of dating, Bennon and Caroline tied the knot on July 13th this summer, moved to Brandon, and started work all within the span of a month.  Caroline is now teaching Art at Brandon High School, while Bennon is interning with the College Ministry at Crossgates and attending New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

“But now, O Lord, you are our Father;

we are the clay, and you are our potter;

we are all the work of your hand.”
